Dynatrend Thermal Insulation for Gas Turbine, Power Turbine and Exhaust Collector.
To avoid high temperature inside the Gas Turbine Enclosure, hot surfaces like the Power Turbine and the Exhaust Collector are provided with external thermal insulation blankets.
Typically, the insulation blankets are made from mineral wool or ceramic fibres, wrapped and sewed in a fibre glass fabric, and fixed to the surface by stainless steel wires.
Experience has shown that the lifetime of the blankets is limited due to mechanical wear and fatigue from enclosure ventilation air wind loads, and from machine vibrations.
Additionally, the experience shows that when exposed to lube or fuel oil, the oil is soaked into the blanket, causing the possibility of a potential fire.
To improve on durability, and to reduce the hazard of keeping combustible materials inside the turbine hood, Dynatrend AS has developed a Thermal Insulation Blanket with the following properties:
- Oil Sealed surface.
- To avoid lube and fuel oil to soak into the blanket insulation, the blanket is provided with an aluminium foil coating.
- Mechanical strength.
- To enhance the mechanical strength, the insulation blanket is sewed into an outer jacket made from very fine AISI 316 SS wire mesh.
The wire mesh will improve on the mechanical strength of the blanket assembly,
to absolutely withstand ventilation air wind load fatigue and abrasive loads due to equipment vibrations.
- Nextel 312 Fabric.
- Over time, the traditional glass wrapping tends to get brittle, and is damaged during operation and by maintenance handling. The dust will contain both glass-fibre and rock wool particles. (Please note that none of these products contain.
- Dynatrend is offering a wrapping made from Nextel 312 fibre
fabrics, which is an option to the traditional wrapping.
- Compared to the glass fabric, the mechanical properties of the Nextel 312 fabric are not reduced at temperatures of 600ºC, and the material does not get brittle.
The combination of Nextel wrapping and the SS wire mesh outer jacket gives the blanket assembly outstanding mechanical properties, improving the life time of the assembly considerably, also reducing the release of hazardous dust.
- Thermal insulation.
- The blanket thermal insulation is made from silica type ceramic fibres, either as a blanket, or as a bendable plate, allowing for a reduced blanket thickness compared to mineral wool, without reducing the thermal insulation properties.
For maximum protection to heat dissipation, Dynatrend AS is standardising on 50mm - 2” silica type ceramic mats. For extreme protection, thicker mats can be applied.
-Options of using the bendable plates will reduce the thickness to 15-20 mm - 3/4”
-The mats are sewed with a quilted pattern to avoid dislocation of the fabrics during aging and during exposure to mechanical and thermal stress.
- The plates will stay positioned in the outer protection by its own stiffness
